Tai Chi Classes for Health                                

Abide in Chi offers an hour-long Tai Chi for health class at the Gracie Barra Jiu Jitsu Center in South Miami and Cutler Ridge Park in Cutler Bay.  

A mind-body practice addressing physical, mental and spiritual health, Tai Chi is a holistic approach to wellness.  

Practiced for centuries by the Chinese, the internal art is a proven fitness program that provides aerobic activity, mental relaxation, and strength and endurance conditioning.  

Participants experience flexibility, coordination, stress release, increased energy, strengthened muscles, reduced joint stiffness, and improved balance, posture and circulation.

Being that Tai Chi is a low-impact exercise that uses slow and even movements, people of all ages can participate.  It is a life-long practice that is embraced by youth as well as seniors. 

The Class

The first half of the class consists of deep breathing exercises, stimulating blood and energy circulation and mental relaxation; movements to open joints and improve balance; and standing meditation to increase relaxation and body awareness.

We proceed with a Tai Chi format developed by Dr. Paul Lam, an internationally acclaimed Tai Chi Master and family physician.  Using Sun Style moves, the form promotes balance, posture, aerobic activity, mental concentration, and mobilizes muscles and joints.  In addition to the health benefits, the form’s artistic and athletic moves provide enjoyable and challenging physical activity.

The class winds down with light stretching.

Classes are taught by Elisa C. Smith who is certified to teach Dr. Lam's Tai Chi for Arthritis for beginners and advanced and Tai Chi for Diabetes. 

Classes are open to adults ages 18 and older and are held at:

Private Sessions 
Abide in Chi offers private lessons in Tai Chi and Chi Kung tailored to the student’s needs and interests.
