Qigong PracticeRejuvenation, Recreation, Relaxation
An ancient Chinese system of generating chi, Qigong is a means of managing the continous interchange of energy between man and the universe.
Why is it essential to regulate Chi?
According to traditional Chinese medical theory, when we have an abundant supply of chi circulating through out the body we remain healthy. Once the chi becomes depleted and stagnant, not flowing, then health is compromised.
Just as with standing water, bacteria and other disease causing agents breed when the water ceases to flow. So it is with the body. Disease develops when body fluids and chi are not moving.
How does Qigong work?
Qigong is a mind-body practice that combines deep breathing with slow circular movements that cultivate magnetic fields. During the exercise, the practitioner consciously follows the energetic pathways. Energy is always available, but it is mindfulness that increases the flow.
There are various styles of Qigong ranging from minimal movement to exercises engaging all major muscle groups and joints.
What are the health benefits of Qigong?
In addition to increased energy and circulation, Qigong provides mental relaxation, and strength and endurance conditioning. Practitioners can expect greater flexibility and joint mobility, strengthened muscles and improved balance and posture.
Qigong also calms the nervous system, taking us from a state of fight or flight to rest and restoration.
Join us at the South Miami Farmers' Market, 6130 Sunset Drive, every First and Third Saturday from 11 - 11:30 a.m. for a complimentary
session of Qigong.
What is the difference between Tai Chi and Qigong?
Qigong is not a martial art and is believed to pre-date Tai Chi. Qigong can also be performed lying, standing, sitting and includes self-massage. Both share the same health benefits and the goal of uniting mind, body and spirit.
Abide in Chi incorporates Qigong exercises as a warm-up in the Tai Chi classes. Qigong workshops and private sessions are available at request. Call 305-343-6365 or email info@abideinchi.com
